VISIT BY THE NEW CHAIRMAN OF CSIR – MR. ABE INCOOM

The New Chairman of the CSIR Council on his familiarization tour to all the 13 institutes visited IIR on Wednesday, 5th February 2014. The visit is to enable him observe the state of the Institute and acquaint himself with on-going research projects as well as actual capabilities of the Institute. Accompanying him was the DG of CSIR- Dr. Abdulia B. Salifu and some executives from the CSIR head office: The Director of Finance, Director of Administration, Director of CID and DG’s Scientific Secretary.

In fulfillment of Ghana Government’s agenda of using Science, technology and Innovation as the driving force towards the economic development of the nation, this year’s Science, Technology and Mathematics Innovations Education (STMIE) Camp 2013 for Basic School Students paid an industrial visit to IIR. This visit is to arouse, develop, and sustain the interest of participants in science and technology, inculcate in then the spirit of innovation, and prepare them for further studies in science and science-related programmes after Basic Education.

CSIR-IIR wins international award
Five Ghanaian researchers at the Institute of Industrial Research of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research were on Thursday honoured by the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), Geneva for their creativity and innovations.
The five, Dr William Owusu Oduro, Maame Adwoa Bentumah Sagoe, Kofi Ampomah-Benefo and Joyce Koranteng were honoured after being adjudged winners in a competition jointly organised by WIPO, the Registrar General’s Department of Ghana and Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) in August 2012.
They took the first position with their innovation on how to make wooden products from plastic waste and sawdust.
